The Faculty of Mathematics was founded in Dagestan State University in 1964. In 2011 the faculty introduced new degree programs: Mathematics and Computer Science, Fundamental Informatics and Information Technology, Applied Mathematics and Informatics, later being reorganized into the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Today the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is one of the most dynamically developing faculties of DSU. It comprises 5 departments: Department of Higher Algebra and Geometry, Department of Function Theory and Function Analysis, Department of Mathematical Analysis, Department of Discrete Mathematics and Informatics, Department of Applied Mathematics. The faculty enrolls over 500 students. It also provides training for postgraduate and doctoral degrees.

Leading researchers from Dagestan Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other higher educational establishments are invited to deliver lectures and supervise diploma and term theses.

The members of our academic staff take active part in research work: they do research programs subsided by grants, investigate key problems of mathematics, etc. The results of their surveys are published in fundamental Russian and foreign periodic. Our scientists maintain close ties with leading universities and scientific centres. Undergraduate and postgraduate students are also involved into research work.

The faculty’s alumni teach Mathematics and Informatics in the republic’s leading higher educational establishments: Dagestan State Pedagogical University, Dagestan State Technical University, Dagestan State Institute of National Economics, Dagestan Agricultural Academy and other educational and non-educational institutions. They also hold high offices in state agencies and ministries. Our most sought-after specialists are software programmers. Many firms employ them even before they graduate from the University and sign contracts of further cooperation.

The faculty provides all the necessary conditions for the students’ effective work. Classrooms are comfortable and well-equipped. Students enjoy the benefits of 4 computer rooms and 2 large high-technology lecture halls. The departments organize research clubs and seminars for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Non-resident students are housed in the students’dormitory.
